From time to time the Society receives queries regarding people who have lived and/or died in the village or other local enquiries. These come from all over the world and can be very interesting. However, considerable time and effort can be spent in research and, at present, the Society does not have facilities for dealing efficiently with these enquiries.

All such enquiries will therefore be circulated to our members who may be able to help and may respond personally. We will also be happy to post your query on this page on our website. Answers may also be posted. If you have such a query or can help with information please email it to info@lambleyheritage.co.uk

Query from Howard Davies

Hello,

I am researching my family history.

My maternal great-grandmother was Hannah Burnham (born 1871 in
Lambley), who married William Woodward (born 1871 in Lambley) on 13
NOV 1894 at Holy Trinity church. Unfortunately, no father's name is
given for Hannah on the Marriage Certificate.

The two witnesses for the marriage were WILLIAM BURNHAM* and
Charlotte Leafe.

Family tradition has it that Hannah may have originally been called
Kirk. A Mr Burnham is believed to have been her step-father.

There is a Charles Kirk, also of Lambley, who married Ann, a
seamstress from Sheffield.. It is interesting that one of their
children, Hannah Kirk born in Lambley 1871, had a younger brother
William*, who may have been one of the marriage witnesses.
However, I have not yet traced the re-marriage of Ann Kirk to Mr
Burnham, if such exists.

Do you have any information that could help me in my researches,
please?

Query from John Palin

I'm impressed by the website for Lambley Heritage. I'm sending you the wills of William and Ann Foster my 4x Gt grandparents. They lived at Lowdham but as you see held land in Lambley. I would be interested to know more about the Tomlinson family of Lambley mentioned in Ann's will. I think they were farmers.

As to the closes mentioned in Ann's will, I would be interested to know whether this was freehold land and whether you have any records, for e.g.Enclosure or Tithe documents which confirms ownership?. My 2x Gt grandfather lived in Lambley as an agric. labourer from the late 1830s until 1895.He died at my Gt.grandather.s home at Milford Derbyshire but was buried back at Lambley!
This was William Palin or Paling 1805-1895
